These are step-by-step instructions to walk you through how to initially install SGA Accounting.
On every pc (server and workstation) install the ASNA AVR 4.0 version 11.384 or later runtime (if you don't already have it), which you can download from downloads: user guest, password tripod.
Be sure your file server and workstations meet all system requirements.
Simple Installation
To install SGA you must have ASNA installed first. You must also run the SGA install, which is a standard windows install program. This type of installation works great if you are only installing SGA on a few workstations. The downside to this is every time you get an upgrade you will have to reinstall SGA on every workstation.
Terminal Services
The ideal configuration for running SGA at multiple locations is to allow users to remote into a single pc server via terminal services. This way any time you get an upgrade all you have to do is install it on one pc. Another advantage is that if you beef up the terminal server's hardware then it doesn't matter how fast every workstation is. The speed will be the speed of the terminal server.
If you try to run SGA from a remote location that does not have a local connection to the database server the speed will be usable, but not very efficient.
The vast majority of our larger clients who have remote locations utilize terminal services. Smaller clients who do not have remote locations do not.
Windows Server 2008 or 2003 will work. 2008 terminal services has two advantages over 2003. It can run SGA with Remote App, allowing the workstation to still see their desktop while running SGA. The other advantage is you do not need to install printer drivers on the terminal server in order for workstations to print.
Naming the Database
During initial installation you will need this information.
